2D Image Ribbon Tab

Context-sensitive tab — appears when the Image context is active.

Commands available on the 2D Image ribbon tab, grouped by panel.

Home

Reset View

Tooltip: Reset image view

Reset the image view to fit the entire image in the window.

Zoom In

Tooltip: Zoom in

Zoom into the image around the current cursor or centre.

Zoom Out

Tooltip: Zoom out

Zoom out of the image around the current cursor or centre.

Target Zoom

Tooltip: Zoom to picked target

Click a point in the image to zoom in towards it.

AI

Segment

Tooltip: Segment the image

Segment image features using point, rectangle, automatic, prompt or SAM 3 modes.

Dropdown items:

• Points — Segment from clicked points
• Rectangle — Segment from a rectangle
• Settings — Segmentation settings
• Automatic Segmentation — Segment everything
• Prompt — Text-prompted segmentation
• Box (SAM3) — SAM 3 box segmentation

SAM 2 model

Tooltip: Choose SAM 2.1 Hiera variant

tiny (~150 MB), small (~600 MB), base_plus (~2 GB), large (~3.5 GB, best quality). Saved per project; downloads lazily on next encode.

Use SAM 3 for Points

Tooltip: Route Points clicks through SAM 3 when ready

When SAM 3 is loaded with the current image, Points clicks run a synthetic ~50 px box through SAM 3. Falls back to SAM 2 silently. Off by default.

Fracture

Tooltip: Detect fractures

Run the fracture-detection model on the current image to extract fracture traces.

Dropdown items:

• Fracture (Hi-Res) — Run the fracture model at higher resolution, for fine or faint traces (ID_IMAGEVIEW_FRAC_AI_HIRES)
• 2D Line Settings — Show the extracted-line parameters in the properties panel (ID_IMAGEVIEW_POLYLINE_SETTINGS)

ACO

Tooltip: Ant Colony Optimiser

Run ant colony optimisation to detect traces.

Dropdown items:

• Settings — Show the ant-colony optimisation parameters in the properties panel (ID_IMAGEVIEW_ACO_SETTINGS)

Editing the extracted lines

Traces produced by Fracture, ACO or by hand form one editable 2D line set. These tools work on it.

Select Line

Tooltip: Select extracted lines

Click an extracted fracture line to select it; Shift-click to add more. Delete erases the selection.

Erase Line

Tooltip: Erase an extracted line

Click an extracted fracture line to delete it.

Erase Vertex

Tooltip: Erase a line vertex

Click a vertex on an extracted line to remove it; the line is dropped if fewer than two vertices remain.

Join Selected

Tooltip: Join selected lines

Join the selected lines into a single trace by chaining their nearest endpoints.

Split Line

Tooltip: Split a line at a vertex

Click an interior vertex to split the line into two at that point.

Move Vertex

Tooltip: Move a line vertex

Click and drag a vertex to reposition it.

Insert Vertex

Tooltip: Insert a vertex on a segment

Click a line segment to insert a new vertex at the nearest point on it.

Extend Line

Tooltip: Extend a line from an endpoint

Click a line endpoint, then click to digitise new points onto that end; double-click to finish.

Draw Line

Tooltip: Draw a fracture line by hand

Click to place the vertices of a new trace; double-click to finish. The line joins the same editable 2D set, so it can be selected, split and extended like any detected one.

Segmentation Trace

Tooltip: Auto-trace between two clicks along the AI fracture segmentation

Run Fracture first, then click a start and an end point: the trace is routed automatically along the fracture-probability field between them.

Image Trace

Tooltip: Auto-trace between two clicks along the image edges

Click a start and an end point: the trace is routed along the image edge and colour gradient. No AI run is needed.

Both auto-trace tools are tuned by Trace Settings on the Interpretation panel.

Interpretation

Wand

Tooltip: Magic wand

Click a pixel to select all connected pixels of a similar colour or intensity.

Dropdown items:

• Settings — Wand Settings

Polyline

Tooltip: Digitise a polyline

Digitise a polyline annotation on the image by clicking successive points.

Dropdown items:

• Settings — Polyline digitising settings

Polygon

Tooltip: Digitise a geopolygon

Digitise a closed geopolygon annotation on the image.

Ant Trace

Tooltip: Trace tool settings

Configure the Image Trace / Segmentation Trace ant-colony parameters in the properties panel.

Erase Point

Tooltip: Erase a point

Click a vertex on a polyline or polygon to delete it.

Move Point

Tooltip: Move a point

Click and drag a vertex on a polyline or polygon to move it.

Paint

Tooltip: Paint label

Paint the active facies label directly onto the image with a brush.

Erase

Tooltip: Erase label

Erase label pixels back to background with the brush.

Brush Size

Tooltip: Brush size (px)

Brush diameter in image pixels. Pick a preset or type a custom value.

Square Brush

Tooltip: Square brush footprint

When checked the brush footprint is a square; otherwise it is round.

Label

Tooltip: Label group

Choose the active facies label assigned to new image annotations.

Dropdown items:

• New facies — Create a new facies definition used to label image annotations (ID_MESH_NEWFACIES)
• Label — The active facies label (ID_IMAGEVIEW_ACTIVE_FACIES)

Tape Measure

Tooltip: Tape measure

Use the tape-measure tool to measure distances on the image.

Display

Flip

Dropdown items:

• Flip Image (Y) — Mirror the image vertically (ID_IMAGEVIEW_FLIP_IMAGE_Y)
• Flip Image (X) — Mirror the image horizontally (ID_IMAGEVIEW_FLIP_IMAGE)

Rotate

Dropdown items:

• Rotate -90 — Rotate the image 90° anticlockwise (ID_IMAGEVIEW_ROTATE_CCW)
• Rotate +90 — Rotate the image 90° clockwise (ID_IMAGEVIEW_ROTATE_CW)

Image Processing

Image Processing

Tooltip: Image processing filters

Apply edge-detection, brightness, contour and other filters to the image.

Dropdown items:

• Edge Detection — Edge detection
• Edge Detection Vertical — Vertical edge detection
• Edge Detection Horizontal — Horizontal edge detection
• Edge Detection Gabor — Gabor edge detection
• Brightness — Brightness / contrast
• Contours — Show contours

Filter Width:

Tooltip: Filter kernel width

Kernel width (pixels) used by the image-processing filters.

Iterations:

Tooltip: Filter iterations

Number of times the filter is applied successively.

Blend

Tooltip: Filter blend amount

Blend between the original image and the filtered result.

Quick Synthetic

Tooltip: Quick synthetic orthopanel

Create a synthetic orthopanel quickly using default parameters.

Graph

Tooltip: Show 2D graph

Plot a 2D graph of pixel values along a chosen profile.

Variogram

Tooltip: Compute variogram

Compute and display a variogram for the image or current selection.

Reset Image

Tooltip: Reset image processing

Discard all applied filters and restore the original image.

Show the first image in the current image set.

Previous

Tooltip: Previous image

Show the previous image in the current image set.
