Ribbon Tabs Reference

This page provides an overview of all ribbon tabs available in VRGS, organized by type. Each tab page lists all commands available on that tab with links to detailed functional documentation.

How to Use This Reference

  1. Find your ribbon tab in the lists below (main tabs or context-sensitive tabs)
  2. Click the tab name to see all commands available on that tab
  3. Each command on the tab page links to its detailed documentation in the functional category pages

Main Ribbon Tabs

These tabs are always visible in the ribbon interface.

Home Tab

The primary navigation and visualization tab containing:

  • Navigation - Move mode, interrogate, view positioning, camera controls
  • Project Explorer - Data tree, interpretation tree, imagery tree access
  • Display Options - Rendering settings, window management
  • View Controls - Full screen, scale bars, compass display

Essential for: Navigation, project management, basic display control


Edit Tab

Data editing and transformation operations including:

  • Selection Tools - Circle, rectangle, polygon, triangle selection
  • Transform - Translate, rotate, scale operations
  • Georeferencing - Ground control points, orientation-based referencing
  • Correction - ICP alignment, regional correction, scaling

Essential for: Point cloud/mesh editing, spatial referencing, geometric transformations


Interpretations Tab

Geological interpretation tools including:

  • Structure - Dip/azimuth measurements (1 point, 3 points, N points, area, plunge)
  • Polylines - Digitise, draw, snap to mesh, vertex editing
  • Faults - Fault stick digitisation, joining, splitting
  • Annotations - Sketch, shapes, waypoints, multimedia annotations

Essential for: Structural geology, geological interpretation, feature digitisation


Modelling Tab

3D modelling and analysis operations including:

  • Measurements - 3D, horizontal, vertical, multi-segment measurements
  • Well Logs - Deviation editing, dip domain setting, facies defaults
  • Voxel Operations - Voxel selection, flood fill, clipping
  • Analysis Tools - Volume calculations, cross-sections

Essential for: Quantitative analysis, well log interpretation, volumetric modelling


Context-Sensitive Ribbon Tabs

These tabs appear automatically when working with specific object types or views.

Structural Analysis

Stereonet Tab

Appears when: Stereonet window is active

Commands include:

  • Display controls (poles, planes, vectors, means, statistics)
  • Contouring options (density contours, solid fill, log scale, intensity plot)
  • Selection tools (rectangle, ellipse, polyline, sector)
  • Rose diagram display (strike values, directional analysis)

Essential for: Stereographic projection analysis, structural statistics, orientation data visualization


Interpretation & Modelling

Geobody Tab

Appears when: Geobody interpretation is active

Commands include:

  • Node editing (select, move, interpolate nodes)
  • Palaeocurrent analysis
  • Display options (vertices, lines, planes)
  • Navigation modes

Essential for: Sedimentary body interpretation, palaeocurrent mapping, 3D geobody construction


Channel Tab

Appears when: Channel simulation is active

Commands include:

  • Simulation controls (start, step, stop, reset, record)
  • Parameter adjustment
  • Evolution playback

Essential for: Fluvial channel modelling, channel migration simulation, stratigraphic architecture


Geosurface Modelling Tab

Appears when: Geosurface object is selected

Commands include:

  • Surface refinement (re-converge, quality control)
  • Geological surface editing
  • Convergence parameter adjustment

Essential for: Geological surface interpretation, horizon modelling, surface quality optimization


Data Processing

Point Cloud Tab

Appears when: Point cloud object is selected

Commands include:

  • Georeferencing (from GCP, from orientation, from both, lock)
  • ICP alignment (align, max distance, sampling, show links, split view, overlay, percentile, use tiepoints)
  • Rescaling operations
  • Tiepoint management (add, auto tracker)

Essential for: Point cloud georeferencing, scan registration, spatial alignment, coordinate transformation


Triangulated Mesh Tab

Appears when: Mesh object is selected

Commands include:

  • Selection tools (circle, rectangle, polygon, triangle, additive, de-select)
  • Facies painting (paint, radius, create, target, show overlay)
  • Transform operations (transform, translate, rotate, undo/redo)
  • Export and utilities (export model, copy screen, drainage analysis)

Essential for: Mesh editing, facies attribute assignment, mesh quality control, surface classification


Voxel Volume Tab

Appears when: Voxel model is selected

Commands include:

  • Voxel selection
  • Flood fill operations
  • Box clipping
  • Radial clipping

Essential for: Volumetric grid editing, 3D region selection, voxel model manipulation


Well Data

3D Logs Tab

Appears when: 3D well log is active

Commands include:

  • Deviation editing
  • Dip domain setting
  • Facies/grain size/carbonate defaults
  • Log display options

Essential for: Well log interpretation, deviation survey editing, subsurface data visualization


2D Logs Tab

Appears when: 2D log correlation window is active

Commands include:

  • Profile digitisation
  • Unit splitting
  • TVT (True Vertical Thickness) sampling
  • Zoom and view controls

Essential for: Stratigraphic correlation, 2D section interpretation, Wheeler diagram construction


Simulation

Discrete Element Volume Tab

Appears when: DEM simulation is active

Commands include:

  • Simulation control (start/stop)
  • History player (playback, step forward/back, speed control)
  • Particle visualization options

Essential for: Discrete Element Method simulation, particle dynamics, granular flow analysis


Visualization

Map Tab

Appears when: Map view window is active

Commands include:

  • Zoom in/out
  • Pan controls
  • 2D mapping tools
  • Layer visibility

Essential for: Plan view mapping, 2D spatial analysis, overview visualization


Image Tab

Appears when: 2D image is displayed

Commands include:

  • Display adjustments (brightness, contrast, saturation)
  • Image processing (filters, edge detection, histogram equalization)
  • Analysis tools (ACO, wand selection, tape measure, variogram)
  • Contouring and synthetic generation

Essential for: Photograph enhancement, orthoimage processing, raster analysis, image interpretation


Integration & Automation

Flight Path Tab

Appears when: Flight path mode is active

Commands include:

  • Path creation (add view, add scene, create open/closed path, show path)
  • Editing (smooth all, motion blur)
  • Playback controls (go to start/end, step back/forward, play)
  • Recording (record movie)

Essential for: Animated presentations, virtual tours, camera path recording, documentation videos


HTML Editor Tab

Appears when: HTML document is being edited

Commands include:

  • Text formatting (bold, italic, underline, font, colour)
  • Structure (headings h1-h6, lists, indenting)
  • Insert elements (links, images, tables)
  • Document tools (XHTML mode, prettify)

Essential for: Project documentation, reports, field notes, integrated multimedia documents


Python Tab

Appears when: Python console is active

Commands include:

  • Script execution
  • Console display
  • Command history
  • Command prompt access
  • Variable inspection

Essential for: Automation scripting, custom analysis, batch processing, workflow extension


Web Tab

Appears when: Integrated web browser is active

Commands include:

  • Navigation (back, forward, home, refresh)
  • Address bar
  • Bookmarks
  • Online resource access

Essential for: Online documentation access, web service integration, reference material lookup
