Hardware Requirements for VRGS

Overview

VRGS is designed to help you visualise and interact with 3D models seamlessly. Although a dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU) is strongly recommended, smaller models can be handled by systems with integrated graphics.

We recommend you try VRGS on your hardware and test it performance. You can get a free trial of the software to do this from the website.

The following recommendations are intended to ensure an optimal user experience.

For example:

On a Windows 11 Surface Pro (low power example):

  • Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1265U 2.70 GHz
  • Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
  • Graphics: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics

Models of 5 million triangles can be comfortably used.

On an Alienware Aurora R11 (high power example):

  • Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900KF CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz
  • Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.8 GB usable)
  • Graphics NVidia GeForce RTX 3090

Models in excess of 150 Million triangles can be comfortably visualised and interpreted.

Operating System

Supported: Windows 10 or higher Preferred: Windows 11 for the best performance

Processor (CPU)

Recommendation: A modern, multi-core CPU (preferably less than 5 years old) VRGS makes extensive use of parallel processing, so additional cores can significantly enhance performance.

Memory (RAM)

Minimum: 16 GB Larger or more complex 3D models may benefit from additional RAM.

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)

Recommended: A dedicated GPU While integrated GPUs can work for smaller models, the dedicated GPU is typically the performance bottleneck and is essential for more demanding workloads.

Graphics Settings

Ensure that the system’s graphics settings – including GPU preferences – are correctly configured for VRGS. Refer to our guidelines for detailed setup instructions.

Model Complexity: The hardware requirements can vary based on the size and complexity of the models you work with. Always consider testing your setup with representative projects. Future-proofing: If possible, opt for hardware that exceeds these recommendations to accommodate future updates and more demanding 3D models.
